Microsoft released their new Windows 7 on Oct 22nd, 2009.
Will our software work on it? We do not have Windows 7 yet, but no difficulties have been reported by users.
Windows 7 is reported to use less computer resources and has undergone extensive testing.
Microsoft says you can "upgrade" to Windows 7 onto a computer with Vista if the editions are the same.
For example:
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition can be installed over Vista Home Premium Edition.
Windows 7 Professional over Vista Business.
Windows 7 Ultimate over Vista Ultimate.
For all other cases, including all XP users, YOU MUST DO A "FRESH" INSTALLATION.
This means:
1. Backing up all your programs and data onto CD/DVDs.
2. Wiping out your hard drive.
3. Installing Windows 7
4. Recover all your programs and data from the CD/DVDs.
Not an easy job. Just locating where your data is can be a problem. It could be in the \Program Files folder with the program itself, somewhere in the User\My Documents folders or anywhere else.
With our programs, the data files and the programs are usually kept in the c:\Shenware folder.
Moreover, each program must be installed again. Just copying the program from the old computer to the new one will probably not work. There are needed System Files distributed with the programs that must be installed too.
This not only applies to our programs but to virtually all the programs you have.
More information is available on the Internet. Here is one source.
We made it easy for you to move our programs onto a new computer regardless of the Windows version.
Here are the steps (for both MiTrains and Waybills):
1. On the old computer, use the Files/Backup to Alternate Drive menu function to copy your data files onto a Flash or Thumb drive.
2. On the new computer or after Windows 7 is installed, download the programs from our web site at www.Shenware.com After downloading, they will automatically install themselves.
3. Re-enter your Registration /Numbers.
3. Put in the Flash or Thumb drive in a USB port.
4. Use the Files/Recover From Alternate Drive menu function to put your data files from the flash drive into your c:\Shenware folder.
Good luck!!
