The basic construction is 1 x 4 grid modules topped with 1/2" plywood and homosote resting on L Girders.
Modules are mainly 24" x 48" and 18" x 48".
I like putting the modules on L Girders because they carry the weight of the module while I joggle it into position to align the track.
All lumber is ripped from 4'x8'x3/4" sheets of Paraply obtained from Home Deport. Paraply is rather heavy. With the plywood and homosote added, a 24"x48" module is manageable but heavier than I would like.
Would I use this construction again?
Probably not. I did have all the materials left over from the previous layout and decided to use what I had. If I did it again, I would use 2" foam instead of the plywood and homosote to reduce the weight. The only problem is finding the stuff. Caulking the track, instead of spiking, works well on foam.
